I have used Urban Company (formerly UrbanClap) for 15 different services over the past year — from AC servicing to deep cleaning to salon at home. Here is my unfiltered experience with each category.
What I Used and How It Went
AC Servicing (Used 3 times) — 4/5
Consistently good. Technicians arrived on time, were professional, and did thorough work. Pricing is transparent — you see exactly what you are paying for before booking. One technician tried to upsell a gas refill that I did not need, but I appreciated that I could decline without pressure.
Deep Home Cleaning (Used 2 times) — 5/5
This is Urban Companys strongest service in my experience. The 2-person team arrived with professional equipment, spent 4 hours on my 2BHK, and the result was genuinely impressive. Worth the Rs 2,500-3,000 for a thorough quarterly clean.
Salon at Home (Used 4 times) — 3.5/5
Quality varies with the beautician. Two of my four experiences were excellent — professional, hygienic, good products. One was average, and one was below expectations (rushed job, arrived late). The inconsistency is the issue here.
Plumbing (Used 2 times) — 4/5
Fixed a leaking tap and installed a new geyser. Both experiences were fine. Pricing was slightly higher than calling a local plumber, but the convenience of booking through the app and having a rated professional show up is worth the premium.
Electrician (Used 2 times) — 4/5
Fan installation and switchboard repair. Professional work, clean execution. The electrician even pointed out a potential wiring issue I was not aware of without trying to upsell a fix.
Pest Control (Used 1 time) — 4.5/5
Cockroach treatment for the kitchen. Effective — noticed significant reduction within a week. Follow-up visit was included in the package.
Appliance Repair (Used 1 time) — 3/5
Washing machine repair. Technician diagnosed the issue correctly but the replacement part had to be ordered separately, adding 3 days to the repair. The part cost felt inflated compared to market prices.
The Overall Verdict
Urban Company solves a real problem — finding reliable home service professionals in Indian cities. The platform is convenient, generally well-priced, and the rating system keeps quality in check. The inconsistency in beauty services is a weakness, and appliance repair pricing could be more competitive. But for cleaning, AC servicing, and basic home repairs, it is the best option available in most metro cities.
